I. Jesus demonstrated the historical reality of His bodily resurrection.

Hebrews 2:10-18 (Part 2)

I. The suffering of the Son appropriate for accomplishing salvation.
a. Through suffering the Son fully completed all required for salvation.
b. Through suffering the Son brings many sons (and daughters) into glory.
II. The Son willingly identified with humanity.
a. He became our sanctifier.
b. He established a spiritual family through His sacrificial death.
c. He modeled trust in God during suffering.
d. He has possession of all who are sanctified in Him.

III. The Son identified with humanity to rescue us.
-help = epilambanomai = to take hold of, to seize
-share in = koinoneo = take part in, share in, participate; here it is a perfect tense verb.
-partook = metecho = to have part in, to share in, partake, here it is an aorist tense verb
a. Through His death He rendered powerless the power of the devil.
-rendered powerless = katargeo = render inoperative, nullify, make ineffective, abolish
-Eph. 2:15
b. Through His death he freed the enslaved.
-might free = apallasso = set free from
-I John 4:18
-I Cor. 15:55-57

IV. Rescuing humanity required a genuinely human rescuer.

a. He became our perfect High Priest.
i. Merciful.

Hebrews 2:10-18 (Part 1)

Two ancient heresies:
-Doceticism - idea that Jesus only "seemed" to be human
-Apollinarianism - idea that the divine nature and mind enter the human body taking the place of a human nature and mind

Hebrews 2:5-9

I. All things have been subjected to the Son.
-II Tim. 2:12, Rev. 20:4, 6, I Cor. 6:3
a. The angels are not given rule of the age to come.
-subject = hupotasso = subordinate, be subject to one's authority, submit to
-Dan. 10:20-21
-world = oikoumene = inhabited world
b. There is nothing that fails to be subjected to the Son.
-testified = diamarturomai = solemnly declare/testify
-concerned = episkeptomai = to care for, visit, watch over
-left nothing = aphiemi = leave out, omit, cancel out, remit
c. In this age we don't see that subjection fully realized.

II. The Exalted Son was humbled for our sake.
a. He took a lower rank becoming human.
-George Guthrie "To 'see Jesus', therefore, does not mean a physical perception, but rather a spiritual perception, recognizing both the witness of his earthly endurance and his present exalted position."

Hebrews 2:1-4


I. Don't drift away from the message of Christ.
-much closer = perissoteros = more earnestly, all the more
-pay attention = prosecho = give heed, give attention to

II. Ignoring the message of Christ will end with severest punishment.
-"If the law mediated by angels severely punished the disobedient, how much greater is the punishment for those who neglect/ignore the message mediated and proclaimed by the Son who is greater than the angels."
